Releases to Look Forward to in the New Year

Happy New Year to all of our listeners! With 2022 wrapping up last week, we decided it was a great time to not only discuss some of our favorites from the end of 2022, but also some projects we are eagerly awaiting in the beginning of 2023! We realize that the end of the year is always a great time for artists to showcase their hard work over the past year but we also feel like new releases in the new year are often overlooked.

Starting with a few that will stick with us through New Years celebrations, it is only fair that SZA and her album S.O.S. receive some recognition. Over the years, SZA has tried to establish herself as one of the great women artists in the R&B/Soul genre and this album definitely solidified her place in that conversation. We can be sure that this album and especially the hits: Shirt, Kill Bill, and Nobody Gets Me will not move out of our recently played anytime soon. Moving along to another great album from the end of the year, we have Heroes and Villains from Metro Boomin, featuring a lineup of incredible artists from this generation. With songs like Superhero (with Future and Chris Brown), Creepin’ (with The Weeknd and 21 Savage), and Too Many Nights (featuring Don Toliver & Future), some may label this project as a “no-skip album”.

While it is nice to cherish the greats from years past, it is always smart to look to the future and 2023 looks incredibly bright in terms of music. One familiar voice that it will be wonderful to hear from again is Miley Cyrus. While her career since the days of Hannah Montana and Party in The USA has been relatively rocky, it seems like she is getting back to her roots and will be releasing her new album, Endless Summer Vacation, on March 10th and it is expected to bring nothing but positive vibes. On the same day, Lana Del Ray is expected to release her album, Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, and we hope the music is better than the album title choice. Looking at the nearer future, we have Sam Smith releasing his new album, Gloria, on January 27th. After the release, and huge success, of his single Unholy this past year we can only hope that this album lives up to those same standards. However, not all the new music is from this generation's favorite musicians. After the reunion of Blink-182 this past year and release of Edging, we are more than ready for their return album, which is not yet named, and subsequent world tour in March. Lastly, but certainly not least, we anticipate that some, if not all, members of BTS will be releasing their own solo albums this year due to the difficulties they are currently facing in terms of mandatory military service. There is clearly a lot to look forward to this year, and this is just the beginning. We hope you enjoy our recommendations and make sure to look out for these new releases!
